Gyrokinesis®

Developed in the 1970’s by Juliu Horvath, Gyrokinesis® embraces the basic principles of yoga, swimming, dance, tai chi and gymnastics. This blended exercise will teach you to awaken and move from your deepest core by working the entire body through seven natural elements of spinal movement: forward, backwards, left side, right side, left twist, right twist, and circular. Fluid movements and rhythmic breathing gently work the joints and muscles while stimulating the body’s internal organs and nervous system, opening up the energy pathways and oxygenating the blood.

Class typically begins with movements that stimulate circulation and simple breathing exercises. Participants engage the spine through a series of exercises while seated on chairs. Movements include gentle arching, curling, bending, twisting and spiraling while focusing on the breath. The movement patterns expand to release a variety of joint and muscle groups including hips, knees, hamstrings and abdominals in all possible directions. Class is performed barefoot.
