Featured Couple: Larry & Nancy

“The couple that sweats together, stays together.”

For the month of February, we’ll be featuring the Lovebirds of Community Fitness … those couples whose benches are always parallel in BodyPump or who spend Saturday mornings sharing Cycling stats. Whether their go-to is cutthroat competition or friendly encouragement, they’ll tell you there’s something truly special about working out with the person you love.

Now introducing couple #6 … Larry & Nancy! 


How long have you been together? 

We met the day after Thanksgiving, 1981. A loooooong time. Nancy has been doing Yoga at Community Fitness since it opened. After Larry retired, Nancy forced Larry off the couch and Larry came to Community Fitness for the first time during the “Movember Manhunt” promotion in 2014. Prior to that, she had a arranged a few private yoga sessions for him to get comfortable as he was worried about looking silly or out of place, being a newbie to yoga!

What are your favorite Community Fitness classes? 

We take Yoga and, if daycare allows, Melt. But that hasn’t happened in a while as our grandchildren are currently living with us during the week. 

What do you like about working out together? 

It gets Nancy away from her desk WITH Larry … We also love our conversations and time together walking to and from class.

How would you describe your in-class dynamic? 

Early on, Nancy supported and encouraged Larry so he would a) come to yoga, b) keep doing yoga. Now, he even goes by himself! We do NOT compete in yoga (we might compete a bit on FitBit steps now and again). We are old enough to realize doing the exercise safely is far more important. Who wants to kvetch about your sore back afterward, right? In class, Nancy gets the pillows while Larry gets the blocks. We do it together and share the setup and take-down.

What do you like to do together outside of class? 

We like taking long walks.
