Featured Couple: Robin & Anton

“The couple that sweats together, stays together.”

For the month of February, we’ll be featuring the Lovebirds of Community Fitness … those couples whose benches are always parallel in BodyPump or who spend Saturday mornings sharing Cycling stats. Whether their go-to is cutthroat competition or friendly encouragement, they’ll tell you there’s something truly special about working out with the person you love.

Now introducing couple #5 … Robin and Anton!

How long have you been together? 

Nineteen years, on and off … but mostly on.  We met in high school and have been pretty much inseparable since.  Over the years we’ve joked around about learning to dance together, but until recently this was just an interest of Robin’s.

What are your favorite Community Fitness classes? 

Ruby!  We also love John’s step and sculpt and Jen’s Zumba classes, but Ruby is such an amazing combination of dance training and silliness with a wonderfully welcoming group of people that we both enjoy.

What do you like about working out together? 

We’ve found that doing Ruby together helps us align our movement styles and really get in sync.  Anton likes learning to move in ways he hasn’t had a chance to experience before, and Robin gets a huge kick out of the fact that he’s willing to try something that most people would think was just for ladies.  Getting sweaty with great music and great friends is one of the highlights of our week.

How would you describe your in-class dynamic? 

Anton says that Robin is the teacher who encourages him to be confident in his body.  Robin gets a ton of energy from Anton — he always makes her want to put 100% into every move.

What do you like to do together outside of class? 

We love playing with our dogs, Mundi and Snufkin, reading out loud and being food snobs together.  Hiking and sharing our nerdy interests in biology, archeology and Star Trek reminds us why we’ve been best friends for most of our lives.
