With the new year comes new classes, and new instructors! We’d like to give a warm welcome to Ben Grieshaber, who will be teaching Vinyasa Flow Yoga at Community Fitness starting in January. Drop by, try out his class, and say hello! Until then, read on to get to know him a little better and discover how his life as a musician led him to yoga. Like ’80s music? Check out his band!
When you aren’t at Community Fitness, what do you do?
I play drums in The Underminers, an ’80s cover band. I also teach yoga on Stand Up Paddleboards with WASUP Yoga in the summertime and teach yoga with SHAKTI Vinyasa and Yoga On Beacon.
What’s your favorite way to spend a day off?
I’m really quite a homebody and ideally love to enjoy a warm dinner and movie with my sweetie at home.
What is something not many people know about you?
I love to watch birds and photograph them when a camera is handy! I especially love hummingbirds.
How did you discover Yoga, and what do you love most about it?
I came to yoga looking for some relief from shoulder stiffness and chronic migraines caused by living the life of a musician (i.e., lugging lots of heavy equipment day-in, day-out, and playing pretty full on). The practice granted this almost immediately and continues to offer me relief from life’s tensions, as well as a place to slow down and tune in to find my center.
What do you want people to know about your classes?
I take time grounding everyone through safe alignment and breath. From there I love to flow! Expect to be challenged and have fun!
