Experience the energy, rhythm, and joy of various dance styles with Kylie O’Neill in this exciting fusion class. Kylie blends African dance’s powerful roots with influences from dancehall, jazz, and hip-hop to create a soulful, empowering experience.

These are the foundations of African dance. With its deep spirituality and cultural significance, African dance has influenced movement styles across the globe. In this class, Kylie shares her passion for honoring these roots and styles while bringing her own creative flair to the floor.

About Kylie:
Kylie began dancing as a child. She found that by age 14 dancing Hip-Hop was particularly therapeutic, providing healing in her adolescent years.
As a child Kylie had a challenging time verbally expressing her quickening emotions. Dance soon became a Medicine for her; allowing her to embody and express emotions, explore the energies of masculinity and femininity, and release blocked and unwanted tension in a way that developed authenticity, power and confidence. She began studying various cultural dances and world styles in order to be more well rounded as a healer.
Kylie credits both the divine and various teachers for her instruction. She has a masters in Nia Freedance for her formal African dance training. She also studied under Kolanie Marks, Casey Cheryl Marie, Fatu Ladydrummer and ancestors of Fatu Lady drummer, Adrian Soteria Ealy and ancestors of Adrian Soteria Ealy, Sara Woolsey, Darkia Anderson, and Akinlana Burrows. She studied West African Dance at Central Studio Cambridge and Chanel of Boston Dance Academy, as well as with Zumba African Dance. Before Seattle, she was in Arizona at SunMoon Studio learning from teachers including Ryan Grovey. In addition, she has studied multicultural styles and dance studies including Indian Dance, Odisi, DanceHall, Hawaiian, Hulu, Hiphop, and Afro-Brazilian, among others.
Kylie earned her degree in Multicultural Counseling and has a Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a focus on Expressive Arts therapy to work with adolescents. She has been teaching Dance as a holistic, integrative healing method for the last five years. She learned the value of cultural competency through her studies, and uses her platform to educate, inform and honor the roots of dance as a natural remedy uniting us all through the universal language of the body.
