Alison went to her first yoga class because her back hurt, and also because she heard Madonna did it, so that was something! That first year, Alison practiced 5-6 days a week…which led to an interest in teaching Yoga (and a dwindling interest in Madonna). These days, her own yoga practice (often on a mountain or beach in Washington) will be full of arm balances, backbends, breath awareness, and fun.
Alison taught her first class in 2001 and has continued learning and teaching ever since. She is registered with Yoga Alliance as a 500-hour RYT. Alison loves the big picture of yoga as well as the details: can we observe, at any point in time, where is the body in space, what is stretching, what is strengthening, and what technique do we use to make it all happen? In her classes she often includes a little yoga philosophy, a lot of sweat, eclectic yet awesome music, poems, readings by favorite writers…and maybe a giggle here and there.
Alison will be forever grateful to her first teachers Aadil Palkhivala and Kim King-Zamoff, as well as her teacher since 2013, Theresa Elliot.
